Above is a cuckoo bee - these attack the nests of young
Bumble Bee queens, kill them, and use their workers
to rear their own young.
Newts seem to have had a good year - more so than the frogs which we still see
from time to time along with the occasional toad.
The bats continue to thrive in the roof - 53 were counted emerging from the roof space
one evening - a long eared was found dead earlier in the year.
Slebech Park is home to six different types of bat - Lesser horseshoes, Natterer's bats,
Long eared bats, two kinds of Pipistrelle and the spectacular Greater horseshoe bat.
The latter breed in only 13 places in Britain and so the 40 pairs here are something special.
